5 Tips for Finding the Perfect Engagement Ring

A year before S popped the question, I researched the little details I would love in a dream engagement ring. While I didn’t want to have a single hunch when he’d ask [hence why a year passed!], he did want guidance on my personal taste in engagement rings so that he could feel confident while picking out the perfect one! You’ll be wearing this sentimental accessory your entire life and there are so many options out there, so there’s no harm in giving a bit of direction 😉 This was totally our preferred process and everyone is different, but if you want to provide your guy some direction to help him during his engagement ring quest, I’m here to help!

Alright, let’s chat engagement rings! Guys can get overwhelmed so being clear, concise and decisive is important. Really vet through the points below so that by the time you bring him this information, you’re certain. And, avoid giving him new direction every week, haha!

THE SHAPE:
There are so many beautiful diamond shapes available. From classic round or princess to statement-making pear or marquise, decide which shape appeals the most to you! I knew for years that I loved oval cut so that was easy to check off, but if you’re torn just grab your bestie and try some on at your local Jared. Trying on rings in-person may make it easier to see which shape you’re most drawn too!

Band- Side stones? Diamond pave? Sleek metal? All three of these options can really set the tone for your ring. While a diamond pave band or two gorgeous side stones will add some extra sparkle, a traditional, sleek metal band can also allow your center stone to be the star of the show. For most rings, you’ll be vetting through yellow gold, white gold, platinum and a new trend – rose gold. To break them down:

Platinum – If you’re hard on your hands, this is a great option! The density of this metal makes it an extremely durable metal. Another great selling point is that platinum is hypoallergenic so sensitive skin won’t be irritated.

Gold – Both yellow and white gold are very traditional and timeless metal options. You’ll also find that due to the abundant supply, they are oftentimes both more affordable options compared to other metals like platinum.

Rose Gold –The feminine touch that rose gold brings to an engagement ring has really made this option rise in popularity. Pairing rose gold with a morganite gemstone, like this one from the Earthly Treasures Smithsonian® collection at Jared, adds a unique touch as well!

THE FINGER SIZE:
