The best sale of the year is arriving in a little under two weeks – The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!
Today I’m here to share why The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! sale is so coveted, all the crucial details and my personal tips for shopping the sale efficiently because unlike any other, this sale requires a strategy.
WHAT IS THE NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE?
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is an annual sale where Nordstrom offers huge discounts on brand new fall merchandise for a short period of time. And while it’s technically considered the ‘fall’ round of merchandise, keep in mind it doesn’t only include faux fur vests and leather riding boots – a large chunk of this sale is every day women essentials like denim jeans, v neck tees and underwear that you’ll wear round year. Plus, the sale also covers children’s clothing, beauty, athleisure menswear, shoes and even home decor.
Rather than a traditional sale where retailers are trying to move old inventory, the sale items are brand new merchandise that hasn’t hit any retailers shelves yet all at 40-70% off and sometimes more! You’ll see fully stocked sizes and color selections, but they go FAST and often are not restocked until post-sale.
In addition to the steep discount on brand new merchandise, this sale has a large following due to the coveted designer brands that never, ever go on sale. From Stuart Weitzman boots, Tory Burch riding boots and Burberry jackets, no other sale includes these coveted pieces for such a huge mark down, especially before the season even starts!
Since the sale is so popular, brands are so good and discounts are so deep, pieces fly off the shelves in-store and online. If you’re a NSale veteran then you know having a strategy going in is needed to shop smartly and efficiently.
MY 5 INSIDER TIPS FOR SHOPPING THE NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE
TIP 1: Know the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2018 Dates
July 12th – Early access begins
July 19th – Last day of early access
July 20th – Public access begins
August 5th – Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ends
TIP 2: Shop Nordstrom Anniversary Early Access!
Popular sizes and hot ticket items sell out within the first couple days of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and as the saying goes, the early bird gets the worm. Having Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Early Access is the key to guaranteeing you’ll get the items you want.
So how do you get Nordstrom Early Access? You need the Nordstrom credit card. Let me say here, my husband and I do not sign up for credit cards lightly. We only have two retailer credit cards and they are the two we shop the most at in in turn, reap the largest benefits from. One of them is the Nordstrom credit card.
With the Nordstrom credit card, you gather ’Nordstrom Notes’ so for every dollar spent, you’ll receive two points that accumulate and transfer into $20 vouchers. These add up! And of course, the other perk is getting Nordstrom Anniversary Early Access. Personally, I’d never make someone feel pressured to get a credit card. If you simply cannot or do not want one, you’ll still be able to shop the sale. Just know that coveted designer pieces will most definitely be gone and popular sizes will definitely be a gamble come public access.

Sign up for a Nordstrom credit card by July 7th in order to have your physical card in time to shop. With that said, you can wait to sign up day-of, but accessing the sale just requires some additional hoops to jump through to get access. via Nordstrom chat support via online shopping and the rep in-store calling a support line when shopping in-store, but you will be able to shop without your physical card in hand.
Insider Tip: Sign up by July 9th and you’ll also get a $40 Nordstrom Note if you spend $100 on the day you are approved.
TIP 3: SKIP THE STORE, SHOP ONLINE
By shopping the sale in-store, you’re only seeing 10% off the sale offerings. By the time you get home to grab items online, they may be gone. And what is better than shopping in your jammies with a cup of coffee? That beats a mall crowd any day!
I also personally love online shopping due to the thorough reviews. Nordstrom has a vast review section that allows you to know if a piece fits true to size, runs small, etc. Plus, you are also to get style inspiration via the online model,
While I pop in into my local store due to my blog to curate content for my readers, if I were a regular consumer I wouldn’t even bother going. You’re better off shopping via your jammies in your bed and ordering multiple sizes. Nordstrom has no questions asked, free returns so just tip what doesn’t fit back!
TIP 4: BUY NOW, RETURN LATER
If you can’t decide on a piece, don’t let it sit in your online cart or wait to decide on taking the plunge. Buy it, and you can always return if you end up not needing the item. That is the perks of Nordstrom AMAZING return policy. I have missed out on so many items because I didn’t pull the trigger fast enough – not fun babes
Insider tip: If an item is sold out in your size or preferred color, buy it in another size and hold on to it! While Nordstrom doesn’t restock everything, some pieces will restock after the sale ends. At that point you can just exchange the item for your size/color and still have that Early Access Sale price. I did this with Tory Burch riding boots two years ago!
TIP 5: SHOP VIA A MIX OF MIN!
For the first year, I’m taking time off to solely focus on this sale. In the past, I have balanced both work and the sale which means means I got zero sleep 🙂 Not this year!
