A few weeks ago I tried out a beauty service that was brand new to me – waxing! I have never been to a salon for any type of waxing services and after my visit at Waxing The City, I really regret not going sooner! Not having to worry about shaving during the summer time has made my life just a tad smoother – no pun intended! 😆
The day of my appointment at Waxing The City, I learned a lot about the waxing process – especially that the hair removal wasn’t as painful as the movies and society make it out to be. Of course that is if you’re at a reputable salon with an experienced Certologist, but I really didn’t flinch. I was so anxious leading up to the appointment and for no reason since I was in such great hands.

I opted for a bikini wax and it’s made hopping to the pool so much easier. The Certologist made me feel so comfortable from the beginning all the way through the end of my appointment. She explained the process and broke down everything from the two types of waxes typically used, the techniques reduce pain during the appointment and how to upkeep post-wax. She was so knowledgable and sweet!
Before my waxing appointment at the Waxing The City Natick, MA location, I did lot of Googling to understand what I had to do to prepare my skin for my waxing appointment. After checking my first waxing appointment off my beauty bucket list, I wanted to share my personal tips for any other newbies! This way – you have a tad less anxiety than I did going into your appointment 😉

1.GROW HAIR: Whether waxing your eyebrows or bikini, keep hair long enough for the wax to grip it. The ideal length is two to three weeks of growth, or about 1/4 an inch. When the hair is too short, the wax can’t pick it up well enough to remove it. Other the other side – when it’s too long, it prevents wax from adhering and causes more pain.
2.LIGHT EXFOLIATION: Leading up to your wax appointment, exfoliate! Exfoliation aids in the wax grabbing hair rather than skin. To avoid making your skin irritated, skip out on this the day of.

3.MOISTURIZE: Healthy, moisturized skin allows the wax to release more easily. Too much moisturizer could coat the hair and interfere with the wax’s grip, so avoid moisturizing on the day of your waxing session.

4. RETINOL BREAK: If you’re waxing an area on your face, take a break from Retinol for at least two weeks leading up to your appointment. While this skin care ingredient does wonders for fine lines and pigmentation, it makes skin very susceptible to injury while waxing.
PS – Okay ladies. Let’s get real about body hair. His 5 o’clock shadow might be ruggedly sexy. Yours…not so much. But have no fear, Waxing The City is here with an offer that’s hard to refuse! First time customers get 50% off any service! Call or book an appointment with Waxing The City so you can enjoy a hair-free, care-free summer.

I’ve never had any type of waxing before because I’m scared of how it would hurt (low pain tolerance lol), but so glad to hear you had a positive experience! Maybe I should be open to it in the future 🙂
