Hi girl, I hope your weekend was relaxing! We spent ours with friends and adding some touches to our dinning room.. more on that to come. For today’s post, I’m so excited to share our Christmas decor!
I spent a chunk of October and most of November searching high and low for affordable holiday decor. Other than a Christmas tree and one Patriots nutcracker :-P, we didn’t really have holiday decorations in our apartment and were waiting until we had a house! I knew I had to start the search early since finding affordable holiday decorations can be quite the challenge and I wanted our space decorated in time for you to be able to shop and source for your own home.
Since this is our first year in our home, we focused mainly on our living room. Next year, we’ll have this set up under our belts and focus on other areas of our home and our front porch! For our porch this year, we have this wreath and twinkling lights.
But back on topic to our interior holiday decor! My favorite parts of our Christmas decor are:
80% of my holiday decor search was for affordable garland, no joke. I envisioned garland along our fireplace mantel and our stairway railings leading to our upstairs. That meant I needed three garlands, so at the average going rate of $95 a garland that was a serious no-go!
I searched Amazon, WalMart, World Market, Bed Bath & Beyond and so many other retailers. The affordable garlands were super sparse. Balsam Hill and other retailers were at $100+ for one – eep.
Then I came across the world’s most perfect garland for $35!! They are often buy one, get one 50% off too! You can shop it HERE.
While planning our wedding, sourcing the decor was one of my favorite parts! We tried to focus on pieces that we could reuse post-wedding as home decor or party supplies.
Throughout our cocktail hour and reception, we had a lot of gold terrariums in varying sizes and shapes sprinkled in. Now these gold terrariums live in varying areas of our house and I love having them as a little reminder of our wedding day!
I loved adding two to our mantel! They added a nice little touch bouncing off our stocking hangers and mirror.
This is a great reminder that you don’t need every single piece of holiday decor to scream CHRISTMAS! Having a foundation of your year round style allows for a cohesive look.

We not only upgraded Muenster’s stocking this year, but ours as well. I grabbed these on sale a few weeks ago. The faux fur material adds a touch of texture and bounces off our $40 faux fur Christmas tree skirt. We added these cute initial ornaments to tell between mine and S’.
I love how our stockings tie into the color of Muenster’s as well!
4. SENTIMENTAL ORNAMENTS
Ever since getting engaged, we have get a Christmas ornament to signify our year. 2016 was this for our engagement year, 2017 was this for our wedding year and this for our honeymoon and 2018 will be one to signify our first home! Muenster’s ornament is by the same Etsy shop that made our marriage one.
RewardStyle is being weird on me sharing the exact cat ornament, so just click into her shop and look for the cat one! His has his birth year on the back and it’s so stinkin’ cute! We have used this shop to gift engagement ornaments for our friends as well.
I hope this blog post sources some pieces you needed for your home or just sparks some inspiration for you to use what you already have in a different way!
Thanks for reading.. up next for home decor? Our dinning room reveal! I posted a sneak peak here, but we just got a few pieces that totally transform the area. I cannot wait to share! Xo Mindy
