I’m so excited for today’s blog post! While I’ve shared home updates over the last few months and a recent DIY project, this is my first room reveal from our new house! Yay!

We moved into our first home in August of last year. Since then, we have been focusing on decorating the dining room. So yeah, six months. I knew even before moving in that I wanted to take our time and wait for pieces we truly loved.

Even before the Marie Kondo trend, I always said to that every piece we see in our home should make us happy. So whether it’s waiting on the budget and saving up for an investment piece or simply the time that it takes to find a piece you love at Home Goods, it’s worth it to curate a space that brings you happiness. Follow what you love whether it’s a thrift find or something you budget and save for! We did a mix in this room 🙂

We started with decorating the dining room for a few reasons, but one being that we had zero furniture transfer from our apartment to here. In our apartment, we had a bar and no room for a dining room table which made me annoyed after awhile so I was super excited to have a large room in our house to make memories in over food because we love cooking and hosting!

With starting in on this space, I wanted to begin with the table and build around it so we did just that.

While celebrating our one year wedding anniversary, I came across this one in store while we were strolling through the Old Port. S actually pointed it out, all while definitely thinking I’d not be a fan. Rustic usually isn’t my style, but I fell in love with this table because the actual structure of it because it’s a very modern take on an older farmhouse style piece. I loved the modern, chunky legs, the grey hue [obvi] and how the rustic reclaimed wood added in texture and character into our home.

[Also wanted to note, I LOVE rustic pieces and farmhouse style in other people’s homes. It’s simply beautiful. Most of the IG accounts I follow are this style since it’s so gorgeous. I just lean more modern personally.]

I sat on it and after a month and purchased it on sale. Our color is ‘Stone Grey’ and it’s the middle size.. 72″ length. We debated between that and the 87″, but now with other furniture in there I am super happy we got the medium size.

If you like the look of a bench, they sell a matching one! Such a great option if you have kiddos.

I’ve had these chairs on my mind for years and knew that once we bought our first house, I’d incorporate them. I just LOVE the bamboo wood detailing and now that I have experience with them in person, they are super comfy and high quality!

Deciding on the table allowed me to zero in on the color for the chairs. I loved both the grey and cream, but since our table was grey we of course went with cream! I love the contrast between the dark wood table and the light chairs which then tie into the rug and other white elements in the room.

We had a standard, traditional builder-grade light fixture in the middle of the room which I was so excited to see go. It actually wasn’t in the “middle”, but that’s a story for another day. It was not my style at all and drove me insane! Since I decided to keep all nickel fixtures in the kitchen, I wanted to add a pop of gold in this room.

I looked for two months until this modern light fixture caught my eye. I then waited for another two months to pull the trigger to sit on the idea and I also needed it to go on sale. This retailer often has 20% off!

This modern light fixture is really cool because you buy the base in the metal you like [we did gold] and pendants separately so you can really customize it. They have lots of options for pendant shape, color and size.

I fell in love with the mixed globe sizes in gold hardware. We purchased four small and three medium.

S had to do some electrical work since the last light fixture was originally off center, but we got it installed by ourselves in one afternoon! We also installed a dimmer switch since the bulbs are exposed and bright no matter what wattage you buy.

We had this beach artwork in our bedroom at our apartment and we thought it bounced off the chairs cream color and bamboo wood nicely. I love how soothing and calming the picture is too.

Since it had blush tones, I found it to be the perfect excuse to add in more pink accents on top of this pretty gold console table 😉 . I picked up three blush vases from Target and topped them off with some monstera leaves. Target has a lot of pretty faux greenery right now!

To tie in the artwork some more, I ordered these dusty blush/purple curtains. They are definitely a dustier color than what appears in the picture online, but I actually really love them more than the online photo! The linen adds a nice touch of texture, lets in the perfect amount of light and drape really beautifully. They are on final sale right now for only ~$30 a panel.

I added a modern lucite curtain rod with gold hardware. I debated if having gold here would be too much, but I think it ended up being perfect.

Curtains can really make or break a room and I’ve made all the mistakes! To have a professional, drape feel without the expense ensure your rod is much higher than the actual window and goes longer than the window frame [these both give the illusion of larger windows]. Also have the drapes end exactly at your floor or brush your base molding. Anything shorter looks off!

For a final touch, I added these rings so that the curtains would have a beautiful custom-feel fold, rather than just sit straight on the curtain beam [still need to train them, but more on that another time].

My bar cart and console table both remind me of my nana. She had furniture just like this with beautiful décor all throughout her house. She’d dust them every single day! I get teary eyed while decorating [and am right now] because I know I got my style of and love of home décor from her. She passed away when I was 17 from breast cancer and I know she is looking down on me, dusting and decorating right by my side. I know she would love the way this room turned out!

On our bart cart, we have lots of champagne because bubbles are my drink of choice hehe. The Jules Rose Champagne is my FAVORITE and if you like dry [and not sweet] champagne, you’ll love it.

Here is where I shop for coffee table and bar cart books. I usually grab them during their 20% off sales through the year. The cute pineapple wine topper was a gift from one of my besties and this is our decanter. My cocktail shaker, cocktail glasses and serving tray are all old so I sadly can’t link them.

Above our bar cart, we have a wedding portrait that we had custom framed by Framebridge! I’ve mentioned them a lot on the blog because they make printing and framing pictures seamless. This is such a special picture because it was our first second by ourselves after our wedding ceremony and it gives me butterflies every time I see it!
