Sephora can be overwhelming, right?! There are so many products and they all look fun and pretty. Before going in store, I always have a list of what I actually need. Sometimes it’s not a particular brand and more of a type of product like ‘heat protectant’. This way, I stay on track, but also have fun tracking down the product that’s best for me!

When I first starting shopping at Sephora years ago, I couldn’t tell you the amount of times I went in for something specific, forgot it and left with a $55 bag of things I’m not sure how fell into my lap lol. Has this happened to you?

While shopping in store is lots of fun and you can be efficient with my tip above, I find shopping online to be the best because the review section of each product on Sephora.com is so vast! Plus, each product has details on skin type, hair type, etc. And I find that when you redeem your Beauty Insider points, you have a better selection online vs. in store.

1.LIVING PROOF DRY SHAMPOO
Living Proof will always be sentimental to me because this brand was my very first Sephora purchase! Post-college I was on a really tight entry-level income [anyone else relate?!] and I saved and saved and saved for Living Proof products.

After saving up enough for this shampoo and this conditioner, I was so proud and excited when I walked out of that store! Ever since then, Living Proof has been a staple in my hair care routine.

A little while after that purchase, I start A Mix of Min and guess what?! I was invited to Living Proof’ headquarters which is based in Cambridge. They were launching their dry shampoo and I learned all about it! That was about five years ago (!!!) and it’s been in my beauty regimen every week since because it’s that good!

Why is this dry shampoo different that the competition?

Well for one, it actually cleans your hair. Most dry shampoos are just spitting out baby powder concoctions in hopes of sucking up some oil. That’s why you’ll get that white residue and major product build up.

Living Proof’s Perfect Hair Day dry shampoo features fast-absorbing powders to soak up oil and sweat, while their patented healthy hair molecule (OFPMA) helps remove the powders easily, for ultra-clean hair.

There are also these amazing odor neutralizers and time-released fragrance technology that keep hair smelling fresh all day. The first week I ever wore this, S walked in from a long day at his public accounting firm and said “what’s the smell?”. I told him to sniff my hair lol and it was that! I had’t sprayed since 6AM that morning and this was well after 11PM.

And people always ask me how I extend my hair in between sweating Peloton work outs.. this product is my answer!

2.LIVING PROOF BODY BUILDER
Guys, I have two of these on backstock in my Cloffice because I cannot live without it.

I use it four ways:

1. For volume at the root: I very lightly spray the back of my head before teasing for an extra kick of volume. Use it vary sparyingly and build as needed!

2. For body in curls: I have a picture I’ll post on Instagram stories of the before and after. Once my curls are all done and cooled off, I’ll lift my hair and drop it. As it falls, I spray the ‘more volume’ setting of this and watch as the body of my hair transforms into 3X the size. Game changer!

3.For major pony volume: Oh boy, do I love a good volumized, curly pony! After my pony is all tied up, I’ll hold my hair up and drop it. While it falls, I spray this product and just watch the body build.

4. To hold curls in place: Hairspray can make your hair feel crunchy or unnatural, but guess what? If you spray your curls with this product, it holds them in the perfect “medium hold” and there is no need for hairspray!

When this product first launched, it took me a couple weeks to understand how to use it. The real key is that ‘hair drop and spray’ technique.

I know beauty products are a pretty penny. I can relate! If I were looking to extend my hair in between washes or want to build body and volume, these are the two products I’d suggest. And any product from Living Proof really!
