I’m so ecstatic to share the first wedding post on A Mix of Min! While I know that not everyone is currently engaged or even has it on their radar, I feel that this is a place to share my experiences to help you when you do experience this happy time for yourself whether now or six years from now! Through the next year and more, I’ll be sprinkling in a Wedding Wednesday posts whenever I feel that we’ve learned or experienced something that may be helpful for other women (which are already piling up even after this short of a time being engaged!). On top of helping other women, I really treasure how this little nook of the internet is a space that S and I can look back on months, years, and decades later to revisit all these milestones in our lives.

I’ve had a few emails and chats from readers that were wondering if I could share how S and I met and also our engagement story. We are taking our engagement photos next week, so once we have those back I’ll definitely be sharing both of those stories. It’s so sweet whenever I receive feedback from you all and the fact you’re interested in something not fashion related and more personal really means a lot.

S and I knew who we wanted standing by our side even before we got engaged, so once that day happened it was more of a question on how we would ask, rather than who. In all honesty, we do wish we could have like 15 people each because we have so many friends close to our heart, but 6 seemed much more realistic!

After we took a few days to just enjoy being newly engaged, we started brainstorming ways we wanted to ask our wedding parties. We wanted it to be personalized and thoughtful, so we thought about doing little boxes with a few goodies and a cute note. Having the groomsmen and bridesmaids a little correlated would be good, but wasn’t really on our mind at the time.

After a visit to Michael’s we decided goodie bags would be best since we wouldn’t be as constrained when it came to the size of goodies inside and mailing them wouldn’t be as extensive on the wallet. S’ groomsmen all went to college with him, but now live all across the country so we had to be realistic on mailing 5 out of 6 of his! We also grabbed pink and black construction paper to cut out the block letters for each person’s initial, gold string to tie the note and white note cards with polka dots to write a special message for each.

We ran to a couple stores to gather the goodies we wanted inside each which included:

Bridesmaids goodies: mini champagne, blush Essie polish and Sugarfina champagne bubbly gummies.

Groomsmen goodies: mini whiskey bottle, a cigar and cinnamon Altoids.

I tweaked a cute message I found online to ask my girls:

“Plan with me. Stand with me. Cry with me. Laugh with me. I can’t imagine saying ‘I Do’ without YOU! Will you be my bridesmaid?”

S played off mine, but tied it into the goodies in his groomsmen bags:

“Drink Up. Light Up. Freshen Up. Suit Up. Will you be my groomesman?”

The best part was everyone’s reaction! Whether it was someone we were able to ask in person or on the other side of the country, that moment was so special! If anything, going through this time in our lives is a constant reminder on how blessed we are to have such selfless, supportive and genuine people in our lives. For the last (almost!) month, I’ve been crying more than ever, but with so many happy tears!

While this is how S and I chose to ask and felt it best represented our relationships with our friends, everyone is different! My biggest tip for asking your girls to be in your wedding arty [or guys!], make it personal. Expressing how you feel about each girl is the most thoughtful thing you could do. Whether you have something clever written on a note and then reiterate how many your MOH means to you in person or you get all your emotions written out in a card, making it personal and expressing your feelings in a way that feel natural to you is the most important thing!

Whether you’re newly engaged or your bestie is getting married soon, I hope this serves as some helpful inspiration to ask your bridesmaids and groomsmen to stand by your side on your wedding day! If you’ve already experienced this, I’d love to hear how you asked below! Xoxo Mindy
